Canasta Instruction for Beginners has resumed as of 2/4 (Media Room 2-3pm). Eithne McGowan’s art classes have resumed as of 2/11. Financial Advice and Lessons with Janet Doherty will to continue to meet every Wednesday at 10:30am-12pm in the Adult Lounge. Monday’s Israeli Folk Dancing will be for intermediate level dancers. NEW CLASS: Flickr and Digital Photography Beginning Friday 2/13 Fridays 2:30-3:30pm in the Computer Lab Flickr is a leading online platform for photography, and in this course, we will learn how to upload and edit our photos to Flickr. By the end of the course, an online portfolio will be achieved. Come & Enjoy wonderful stories with great kosher wine and songs. $15 member/$18 non-member Monday March 9: Life Stream From 92 Y Comes to J. 7:30pm Just Kids from the Bronx: Arlene Alda in Conversation Regis Philbin, Alan Alda and TATS CRU What was it like to grow up in the place that bred influencers in just about every field of endeavor today? The Bronx is where Al Pacino, Carl Reiner, General Colin Powell and so many other leading artists, athletes, scientists and entrepreneurs spent their formative years. Three of the Bronx’s favorite sons and daughters get together to reflect on stories from Arlene Alda’s new book, Just Kids from the Bronx, and to share memories of where it all began. There are some very simple things that can greatly improve one's security. One example is not using "123456" or "password" as a password! It's funny but those are actually the two most common passwords of 2014, with thousands of people using them! Speaker: Hector Fernandez, Certified Information Systems Security Professional Vice President in Information Security at Citigroup Thursday February 19: Israel Briefing - The Druze Community in Israel. 12:30pm. The main speaker is Koftan Halabi, Founder and Executive Director of the Druze Veterans Association. He has served as a Senior Advisor to Israeli Ministers and Members of Knesset. He will discuss the ways they are making entryways into Israeli society for young Druze veterans. They are creating relationships with major corporations to help their youth study in universities and obtain the leaderships skills that are necessary to compete in the employment market. Employment and financial stability are often blocked due to low levels of education and the lack of employers willing to employ Druze individuals. This will be an open discussion to hear directly about their community and the challenges that they face. Movie to follow: The Syrian Bride. 2004, 97min Mona, a Druze bride-to-be, lives in a village on the border of Israel and Syria. Her father, a political leader, wants her to marry a Syrian comedian, but her move to Syria would likely be a permanent one, considering the political unrest between the two countries.
