Weekly Updates & News

​Now, more than ever, the CLLD is relying on voluntary contributions from our participants. These contributions will allow us to bring additional programs to you, our most valued customer. Please review the suggested contribution amounts, which are based on monthly class attendance and then use the link below to make payment via credit card. You may also mail a check to the JCC, 1466 Manor Road, SI, NY 10314, attention CLLD.

Suggested contributions will not automatically renew monthly and can be made at any time by clicking the button below or by check.
20 classes per month: $40 Suggested Contribution
15 classes per month: $30 Suggested Contribution
10 classes per month: $20 Suggested Contribution

Updates for The Week of November 2 - 6

10/30/2015

 
Yiddish with Sue Ehrlich will continue to meet every Tuesday, 12:30pm-1:30pm in the Adult Lounge through the month of November.

Conversational Spanish with Isaias Mercado will meet Monday, 11/2 at 11am in the Rotunda.

Canasta with Carol Rosen has been cancelled for the rest of the semester.

Using Google with Darlene Forlenza will resume again on Thursday, 11/5

Recorder class has been cancelled for the rest of the semester.

All of John Bethell’s Computing Beyond Basics (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) have been cancelled for the rest of the semester.

CLLD Young At Heart Sing-a-long will now meet at 2:45 beginning Tuesday, 10/13.

The final  World History class with John Rossi will be held on Wednesday, 11/11 at 1:30-2:30pm in the Media Room.

Tapestry of a People with Amy Posner will take place at 10am every Friday until the end of the semester.

International Civilization with Homer Vandoros will take place in the Ensemble Room 2 for the rest of the semester (Mondays, 1:30-2:30pm).

Peter Whitehouse’s class Departure in Venice will begin Tuesday, 11/17 9:30-10:30am in the Adult Lounge.


Monday November 2: Let’s Talk: Tax and Investment Fraud, 1-2pm in the President’s Room
Speaker: Frank DeCandido, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Financial Planner™ in the state of New York.  Mr. DeCandido currently has a small tax and financial planning business in Staten Island, New York. 

Tuesday November 3: Let’s Talk:Municipal Bonds, Tax Free Muni Bonds, Tax Free Muni Bonds Mutual Fund for High Yield
Speaker: Frank Gerage, David Lerner Associates, Inc 1-2pm in the President’s Room

Wednesday November 4: Trip to Enrico Caruso Museum of America. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) The bus is leaving from HKC at 9:45 am.

Cinema Café at J invites you for another movie and discussion with Fred Greico.
Come and enjoy ”Touch of Evil” directed by legend Orson Welles.
Tickets:$6m/$9nm. 7pm in the Social Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
 
Thursday November 5: Cinema Club and Lunch 12pm. Barefoot. 89 min, 2014.
The black sheep of a wealthy family brings a naive, sheltered young woman home for his brother's wedding.

Thursday Night Dinner/Entertainment:Sounds of Success! Join us for the night of perfect music and dancing! 6-8 pm in the Social Hall. $5 fee for entertainment, $3 recommended contribution for dinner.

Using Google with Darlene Forlenza will be cancelled on Thursday, 10/22 and Thursday, 10/29. Class will resume again on Thursday, 11/5.

The last Recorder Class of the semester will take place on Friday, 10/ 30.

Wednesday October 28: Trip to Greenwood Cemetery. The buses are leaving from HKC at 9:45am. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes.

Thursday October 29: Cinema Club and Lunch 12pm. Welcome to Kutcher’s

Kutsher's Country Club is the last surviving Jewish resort in the Catskills. One of the legendary Borscht Belt hotels during its heyday, Kutsher's has been family-owned and operated for over 100 years. Exploring the full Dirty Dancing-era Catskills experience-- and how it changed American pop culture in the comedy, sports and vacation industries-- this documentary captures a last glimpse of a lost world as it disappears before our eyes.

Special Thanks for the generosity of CLLD member Bonnie Bender who is able to take us back to the era with Kosher popcorn for the movie.
