The CLLD Advisory Council and staff would like to extend our ongoing wishes for your health and safety. We would also like to thank you for your patience during
this unprecedented time. As we do not yet know when in-person services will resume, we have worked hard to bring you a diverse and comprehensive program of remote course offerings. We hope you enjoy them!
 
Now, more than ever, the CLLD is relying on voluntary contributions from our participants. These contributions will allow us to bring additional programs to you,
our most valued customer. Please review the suggested contribution amounts, which are based on monthly class attendance and then use the link below to make payment via credit card. You may also mail a check to the JCC, 1466 Manor Road, SI, NY 10314, attention CLLD.

Suggested contributions will not automatically renew monthly and can be made at any time by clicking here or by check.

The CLLD program is looking for all Holocaust survivors on Staten Island to join its Café Europa program, which is an ongoing way to empower survivors to socialize, and share their experiences. BINGOCIZE ON ZOOM
Register by NOVEMBER 10, 2020
 
In partnership with the Department for the Aging, Temple University will be offering Bingocize® 
 
Bingocize® is an evidence-based program that combines a bingo-like game with exercise and health education. 
 
The program has been shown to increase older adults’ fitness, health knowledge, and helps us to be more social. The overall goals of the program are to help older adults improve and/or maintain mobility and independence and also learn and use health information focused on falls prevention and other health-related behaviors, and socially engage with others. The program meets for twice a week for 10 weeks for an hour each time. Bingocize will be led by two coaches who will help you though the game as well as demonstrate some of the exercises. 
 
No experience with Zoom—don’t worry—we will show you how! 
 
We have 3 upcoming workshops. You must indicate which workshop you want to attend. Space is limited. You can only participate in one of the workshops.

VIRTUAL CHRONIC PAIN SELF MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

In partnership with the Department for the Aging, Temple University will be offering The Virtual Chronic Pain Self-Management Program. Are you dealing with constant or chronic pain? Does it limit the things you enjoy doing? 
 
For those of us dealing with Chronic Pain this can present a daily challenge. The Chronic Pain Self-Management Program helps us learn to manage pain so that we can get on with living a satisfying fulfilling life. Some of the topics covered include techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep. We will also learn about medications, appropriate exercise, nutrition, communication and how to evaluate new treatments. The program will be led by two trained leaders and will meet once a week for 6 weeks for 2.5 hours. We will meet on the Zoom platform. 
 
No experience with Zoom—don’t worry—we will show you how! 
 
We will meet every Wednesday from 10am-12:30pm starting November 18th.

ATTENTION CLLD PARTICIPANTS 
REDS II - Reaching and Engaging Depressed Senior Center Clients 
 
Talk Therapy Research Study here at the Senior Center! 
 
Weill Cornell Medicine is conducting a research study comparing two talk therapies for individuals 55 years and up who are experiencing symptoms of low-mood and sadness. 
 
Participation in the study will be voluntary and will not affect your services at the senior center. A FREE screening will determine if you meet research eligibility criteria. 
 
Eligible participants will receive: 
•Nine individual sessions with a licensed clinician at the senior center or virtually (via telephone or internet). These sessions will cover a variety of topics like, engagement in activities, mental wellness, and more! These sessions will be free of charge. 
•Four research assessments with a study research assistant at the senior center or virtually (via telephone or internet) over a period of 3 months. You will be compensated for each assessment.
