Save The Date:

Thursday February 19: 12pm. Israel Briefin - The Druze Community in Israel.

We will have as main speaker Koftan Halabi, Founder and Executive Director of the Druze Veterans Association. He has served as a Senior Advisor to Israeli Ministers and Members of Knesset.

He will discuss the ways they are making entryways into Israeli society for young Druze veterans. They are creating relationships with major corporations to help their youth study in universities and obtain the leaderships skills that are necessary to compete in the employment market. Employment and financial stability are often blocked due to low levels of education and the lack of employers willing to employ Druze individuals. This will be an open discussion to hear directly about their community and the challenges that they face.

Movie to follow: The Syrian Bride. 2004, 97min

Mona, a Druze bride-to-be, lives in a village on the border of Israel and Syria. Her father, a political leader, wants her to marry a Syrian comedian, but her move to Syria would likely be a permanent one, considering the political unrest between the two countries. The wedding planning is a nightmare, and tensions are high -- especially when Mona's siblings, who have moved on to new countries and complicated relationships, come home before the big day.
