Tuesday June 2: Let’s Talk! 1-2pm in the President’s Room: LEARN ABOUT HOME COMPOSTING
Learn about home composting and how we each can make a difference by nurturing our changing planet to benefit our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren. I will present an overview of the environmental effects of trash disposal and the use of tools needed for composting. I will discuss how you can easily compost scraps from your kitchen in your own compost bin, or how to find neighborhood-based food scrap drop-off sites operated by the NYC Compost Project. I will demonstrate how compost can enrich your home garden. Each of us can improve our environment by reducing trash disposal and saving limited landfill space and the fuel required to transport refuge.

This stunning film, the first to be made in a post-Taliban Afghanistan and inspired by a newspaper account read by director Siddiq Barmak, recounts the efforts of a family of women to survive under an oppressive regime. To eke out a meager living, they dress up their 12-year-old girl, Osama, as a boy so she can work. A talented cast of non-actors -- including Marina Golbahari and Zubaida Sahar -- adds integrity to the heartbreaking story
